Default GW Urban Legends

I used to be in a guild which shall remain nameless. They were decent people, and pretty good players. They even patiently held my hand through the process of installing TS and a microphone on my computer.

Once I was on TS, we used it for nearly every outing. One day, our leader and his wife had this conversation:

Leader: Oh man, I'm trying to cut down these mobs but a moderator is messing with me.
Wife: Oh no, not again! Why can't they leave us alone?
Leader: I dunno, but I keep losing energy and I can't finish casting my spells.
Wife: I think it's happening to me now too!
Leader: Dammit, doesn't Anet have better things to do?

I very politely refrained from pointing out that the mobs we were fighting were mesmers.

I began to notice this more and more. This couple firmly believed that Anet employees were watching them play and screwing up their movement and skill usage. I began to see them typing things like "MOD QUIT NOW!!!", which they claimed always cleared up their lag and made their strategies more successful.

I eventually left the guild when the leader started accusing his wife of somehow doing the same things as the mods. I never got up the courage to ask the other guild members if they also believed in mod ex machina.

***

So, what bizarre beliefs and misinformation have you encountered in other players?

i just met this guy this very moring in DoA. we are clearing the stygian area with guilde and alliance, he was a rit. We encontered a big groups of mobs, then we started to run, however, this rit in our group start casting spirits while we were running, then i asked :why you casting spirits while we are ruuning? he said, so you guys can see the path where to go next. i dont know if he was joking around or what, but i mean, if the mobs see the spirits, they see you as well, whats the point? some of us got killed like 4 times cuz this. does he understand or not about aggro? we still dont know-_-!

I once met a player in Ascalon that didnt understand the agro bubble on the map. He thought that when you saw a monster from across the map it could also see you and that it began preparing for your attack. He would always run away the moment he saw a red dot appear on the edge of the radar making up weird battle plans.

If he was in front of the rest of you, maybe he was trying to use the spirits as a lousy substitute for drawing on the mini-map?

Heh, then there are the mobs that really ARE like that: shiro and the lich in gate of madness, flame djinn in sorrow's furnace...

Was this guy in pre- or post-searing ascalon?

It was post Ascalon in the Breach. The monsters in question were Charr. I know the GoM verions of the Lich and Shiro lock onto you and have a strange agro pattern however this guy thought that every monster would attack you from across the map. I found it funny/strange and did try to tell him it didnt work like that but he would not take my word for it.

To the OP ... ROFLMAO.

You should have told them to make aluminum foil hats so Anet couldn't read their thoughts.

I just remembered something else about this same guild. They had a policy of kicking for inactivity . . . not because they wanted active members, but because they were convinced inactive members were the cause of faction depletion.

It just seemed rather pointless. If you're the type to believe something like that, you're not going to change your mind just because someone else says it isn't so.

Then prove it to them if they don't believe you. I have swindeled many people to think a different way with proof.

Another story that went around for quite some time, was that if you used Monk healing spells such as Heal Area on your undead minions that the degeneration rate of their health would increase. I would be in groups that required a MM and the leader would berate me for healing the minions with that spell.

(Watch, someone will come back and say that it is true and that I am an idiot noob for using Heal Area on my minions)

Once you reach legendary Survivior, you don't need a weapon anymore, you can use hand to hand combat!

o-kayyyy. I made it up. I'm sorry. I'll go away now.
